I used to work at Toys R Us. It was a pretty awesome job. I met some of my best friends of all time there (including my Mark) and I totally got in to collecting toys.

In an effort to veer away from being a complete hoarder, I've almost entirely stopped buying toys. But, I'm still all about Star Wars "guys". I usually buy them, OPEN UP THE PACKAGE, set them up at my desk at work, then eventually throw them in a box in the garage.

Then there are these niche Star Wars figures, available only at Disneyland/Disneyworld (and perhaps [livejournal.com profile] njbearcub1's shop), that are Disney characters dressed up as Star Wars characters. I know, they are lame, but I like em'!

Just saw these today and got really excited:

MUST. HAVE.

I had this friend. [livejournal.com profile] cabearcub. He died in February 2006. I still have all of his toys that were still in box (I garage sale'd the out of box stuff).

He had his entire 2nd bedroom, floor-to-ceiling full of them. I've made some donations, but I still have a fuckton of Teen Titans/Transformers/Boxed action figures from the 2002-2006 timeframe. They've been using up a storage unit I have for $120 a month. I don't know if I should donate things that could potentially be collectable, but maybe get them to a place where they'd be appreciated.

WOAH!
I remember cabearcub from the aol bears4bears chat room in the 90s!

I'm sad to learn about his passing.

Ha, you know a similar collection of the Transformers was on Pawn Stars recently and he was probably going to get more than $20k for them if the owner of them sold them himself?

Those were the earlier ones, from the 80's.

Oh man, sorry to hear that.
As far as the toys go, yeah, I've got boxes in the garage too. I keep dreaming of eBay, but that seems really involved.

It is.

When I moved back to California in July of 2007 I was jobless for 4 months. I very stupidly lived off my record collection (7"/12"/LP/CD) via eBay. The money is good, but packaging vinyl every other day and schlepping it to the post office is a pain.

All the clerks will know you by name, heh.

One time, I ordered a double Al Hirt LP. It finally came in mail with a note that said, "Hey, I threw in an extra record, just for fun!"

I opened up the package and all three records were completely shattered. It was the most pathetic buying experience ever.

That was our thing. We knew which action figures were shortpacked in all series. So every day after work, we'd hit a different Walmart or Target and get shortpacked stuff. And then get other common stuff for him to turn into other figures (via sculpey and paint). We'd ebay the shortpacked figures for extra money. This is why my ebay account has almost a 1000 rating.

I have boxes of Star Wars but I quit buying because Danny has the Hoarders show on speed dial.

I almost bought this at Disneyland a couple of years ago.

For park exclusives, I would have to pay the same price as anyone else, and then pay to have them shipped, so I'd have to sell them for more to make a profit.

If I was at the park *anyway*, and could put them in luggage without having to pay to ship them home separately, then, *maybe*...

Plus, the whole appeal of those figures is, "Omg, I'm at Disneyland and I have all this vacation money! Star Wars Disney guys?!"

I don't understand how Goofy wearing a cowboy outfit is Star Wars.

I'm sure you guys have it there. There's a show called Clone Wars, and one of the main bad guys is Cad Bane. He looks like this:

It's a really good show.
