I Felt Like The Jerk
May. 27th, 2010 08:44 amHas there ever been a movie that everyone has seen except you? Well, for me, one of those was The Jerk. Until last night.
I posted on a few sites that I was about to watch it for the first time, and I was amazed by what a response I got. “Totally love that flick.” “Funniest movie ever!” “A most awesome choice.” So, naturally, I went in with high expectations.
Here are my thoughts:
- My first chuckle was the sniper saying “Die, you random son of a bitch.”
- Steve Martin is surprisingly handsome in parts of the film. Not my type, and certainly not hot, but there were a couple moments…
- Sorry folks, I don’t get the thermos song at all. I think it would have been funnier if I didn’t know he was going to sing that.
- “I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit, and on the slitted sheet I sit.” I take it that is a tongue twister to get you to say shit. I liked it and was saying it out loud, and at that exact moment, Mr
sultmhoor posted that quote. Neato!
- My favorite part was when Bernadette and Steve Martin sang a sweet love song on the beach and then she randomly pulled out a trumpet and nailed it. Laughed out loud.
- I found myself not hating Bernadette Peters. That’s new for me. She’s one of my least favorite people ever.
- Lastly, under the heading of “They don’t make em like that anymore,” I noticed that the music was very sparse. In the big scene where the Impala tows away part of a church: silence. If it was a modern movie, you would invariably hear “All the Single Ladies” or the latest single by Justin Bieber right at that moment.
I liked it. Favorite movie ever, funniest ever? Meh, but I’m better off for having seen it.
