Tick tick tock, Mo is on the jock
Jun. 2nd, 2010 03:55 pmMadonna has always been somewhat wild, but when she released her one-two punch of the book “Sex” and the video “Justify My Love”, she went all-out slutty. All-out-slutty-donna wound up just being a phase, ultimately replaced by Kabala-donna, skinny-muscle-girl-donna, Evita, and several other (significantly less interesting) phases.
The other day, I randomly remembered a song called “Did You Do It?” which appears at the end of the Erotica LP. As a teenager in the early 90’s, I remember thinking it was a misfit track. It’s a very 90’s rap song, performed not by Madonna, but by the producer and presumably his friends. It heavily samples “Waiting” from the same album.
According to mad-eyes.com:
“In this parody of Waiting we hear Andre-Dre-Betts, Mark Goodman and Dave Murphy rap about whether or not Dre shagged Madonna.”
Listening to it now, I realize how much of an amazing time capsule it is. The lyrics are really dreadful and completely demeaning to women, not to mention overly eager. It sounds like a group of teenage virgins talking about how much sex they would have with Madonna if they ever had the chance.
It is all about the god-awful lyrics.
“Here's another episode of dropping off a load
Peter was on the beater, I was about to explode”
“I took her to my place (Yo, did she sit on your face?)”
“I flipped her from the top of my head, enough said
I'm the brother with the short short dreads”
Oh, and this little gem:
“I can't stop once I get started
But yo honey, uh get them legs parted”

Thanks for the memories, the 90’s.
