Gemütlichkeit and a blast from the past

A few weeks ago, Dave [livejournal.com profile] pinner123 and I were talking about a restaurant from my childhood called Bob's Big Boy.

I remember going there something like once a week as a kid. I even remember being too young to have the Big Boy burger while my brother would get to have it.

My beverage of choice would always be a large, heaping glass of whole milk.

At some point in the 80's all of the nearby Bob's Big Boys turned in to Allie's and eventually closed down. Then they reopened as the all-microwave-oven Coco's we know today.

With a little research, Dave discovered that there is a Bob's nearby, in El Cajon. It's attached to a Wal-mart, of all places.

It's all about the statue in front!

I had the Big Boy, of course. Secret Sauce!

We stayed for quite a while and gossiped about our friends. We both texted pictures of our food to [livejournal.com profile] njbearcub1. Could have stayed longer, but it got loud.

It was way too many calories but who's counting, right? Yay, friends and food.

Road Trip! ...plus musicgasm.

Dave ([livejournal.com profile] pinner123) and I drove up to LA to hang out with Jebby ([livejournal.com profile] 50poundnote) and Thomas ([livejournal.com profile] franken_bear) and to watch the Scissor Sisters show at the Hollywood Palladium. It was an epic, mega-gay adventure. Highlights?

I met Jebby and Thomas in real life for the first time. In a word, they're rad (and cute).

Too much cute!

The Scissor Sisters show was fun. Mr Brian ([livejournal.com profile] kingfuraday) was there....

Jebby and Brian

...I told him I noticed a disproportionate about of bear dudes at the show.

"This is Pooh Corner," he said. Pooh Corner is the section in every Scissor Sisters show where bear dudes lust over BabyDaddy. Ah, gotcha.

On Sunday, Dave and I went shopping at The Grove. I had never been; it was fun. Kinda reminded me of Disneyland. Nearby, there's this random, rundown area called the Farmer's Market. We bought a bunch of junk, and lots of delicious, unhealthy food there.

Oh hai

We couldn't resist

No, I didn't buy that cookie jar, but I bought a ton of music at Amoeba.
Oh, Amoeba, you make me so happy...

Bought a bunch of stuff!

We ended the day at Yogurtland! with [livejournal.com profile] e_ticket and Jason. I was put off by all the hipsters, but it was fun. We sat outside.

Yogurtland! It was hipster and crowded, but yumzzz.

I don't think I would ever want to live in LA, but hey, it sure is fun to visit!

I'm not just a comment whore; I'm also a podcast whore.

I was mentioned on my favorite podcast, The 619 Bearcast. Yay!
I'm such a big fan, so to hear them say anything about me is mega-neato.

Click here for the sound clip.

Or what you should really do (unless you're, like, my sister) is check out the full podcast (episodes 71 and 57) at 619bearcast.com

Super mega thanks to my new friends Brian, [livejournal.com profile] jpinsd and Vito. And, of course, extra thanks to Dave!

Also:
- Dearest [livejournal.com profile] 50poundnote, You're in the sound clip too. Apparently I met Dave through you... :)

- I still miss the Buck and Bobaloo Show, though. Just wanted to put that out there. Hi, [livejournal.com profile] bobaloo.

- In the clip, JP said we've never met. But, the next day, Mark and I met him at a BBQ. He's a great guy.

Well, that was fun.

I took today off from running, so early this morning, I was ready for brekkie.

Mark wanted to go to Kono's in Pacific Beach. For those of you that aren't local, Kono's is a little brunchy/lunchy place right by the Pacific Beach pier. It's tourist-trap-Jones.

The line out the door was bad, so we walked over to Hennessey's Tavern.
A few texts later, it's Dave and Steve! Whee!

Hennessey's - Dave! and Steve

Mark and I both had Eggs Benedict. Dave had Captain Crunch French Toast. Yeah, baby.

Here's the view from Dave's and Steve's seats.

Hennessey's - Mike and Mark

Ok, garage door opener, today is your day!!!

A day best described with food

The plan for yesterday was to buy and install a garage door opener. But when I heard Dave had nothing going on all weekend, I had the crazy idea of trying to get him to do lunch.

Next thing you know, we're at Rally's in Lemon Grove. We had so much fun gossiping about people we know in common and geeking out about DVDs, toys and gadgets.

I should have taken pictures. The best shot would have been when Dave got all excited about a sign that says you can get your French Fries "loaded" with chili, cheese and bacon. It was cute.

We did take pictures of our food though, of course.

Here's my lunch:

and here's Dave's

Later, Mark and I went and saw Natalie Merchant in concert. (It was really boring! Actually, the sound was beautiful, and her voice is incredible, but pick up the tempo every once in a while...)

We had sushi, at Sushi Deli 2, for dinner. It was one of the best sushi dinners I've had.

...and the sake wasn't bad either!

It's good to be me!
