Prologue
When I was about 10, my best friend won a $1,000 mountain bike at a raffle. I couldn't believe it. $1,000! A few days later, I went to his house and noticed that the bike was missing.
"Oh yeah," he said, "I left it outside, and it got stolen."
His easy-come-easy-go attitude drove me up the wall. I mean, I get it, there's no turning back, but at least mourn a little bit. I resented him for that for a long time.
The Tale of Gentouch and Phantasm 2 (dedicated to Mr

I'm going through the Phantasm movies. Right now, I'm on Phantasm 2.

Phantasm 1, 3 and 4 are on netflix streaming, but 2, for some reason is not, so I downloaded it. I have an app on my iPad called CineXplayer, which supposedly can play anything, including Xvid.
"Sorry We couldn't play this Movie !" Failure.
I then remembered my Gentouch 78. Remember that one? The fake iPad. That one can play anything. Redemption.
I have a confession to make, though. The other day, it fell out of a drawer, IN ITS CASE, and the screen cracked! I was determined to still use it, though. After all, I paid $169 for it. :)

It turned on ok, but the touch screen no longer works. At all. I can't even turn it off. Ugg. Mega Failure.
I am such a gadget geek, because I then whipped out my GP2X Wiz, the greatest little device ever. Watched that movie on a 2" screen.

Mega Redemption!
Epilogue
Mark said I should try to return the Gentouch. That's ghetto, right? I guess it's worth a shot. I've already got my eye on this badboy.

Buh-buh-buh-brooooken?!?!?!
Date: 2010-09-08 02:00 pm (UTC)How can I live vicariously through your tech-toy acquisitiveness if you break your toys?!?!?! @_@
[[teases]]
Seriously, though -- I'm considering haunting the stores and looking for one of those touch-screen wonder-muppets while I'm in NH in Oct/Nov... @_@
And hey! I was looking at that Archos too! Tibor got mad at me for my tech-toy lusts and forbade me to get it, though -- actually threatened to stop loving me if I bought it...
(( Okay, "love" was never mentioned since -- as a tiger -- he is incapable of that emotion...it was probably something more like "I will never let you touch my junk ever again and will send you videos of me letting total random strange bears touch my junk when you're gone back to Canada if you buy that..." or...something like that, probably, but my memory might be *somewhat* vague on the specifics...all I know is that I don't have an Archos Android-tablet-thingy and I blame him. Hmph! ))

(1) you dropped the Gentouch? NooooOOOoooo! that thing was cool!
(2) GP2X Wiz is pretty awesome
(3) I still have mega-envy of your gadgetry. and geekery.
To be truly a gadget geek, you need to root a Zipit Z2 and install Debian Linux. And then… you know… run a media– and web– server from it. Or whatever other Linux-y goodness you can think of. ;-)
