Day 18. A song that you wish you heard on the radio
I first met my friend Brian over a decade ago, through a mutual friend, Michelle. They were both in the Mesa College jazz ensemble and began hanging out. I was eventually introduced to Brian as a possible drummer for a band Michelle and I were trying to start. The three of us became fast-best-friends, and we spent a lot of time "jamming" and listening to records.
Just when things were getting good, Brian moved to Spain for a year and eventually moved to San Francisco.
As a band, we were never very good, and we certainly weren't serious, driven or marketable. While Michelle and I were just having fun, Brian always dreamt of being in a real band that would tour the world. He really went out of his way to study drumming and music theory, and he's a brilliant drummer, no question.
So I was really happy to find out he joined a band that kind of matches his goals. They're called Birds and Batteries. If you live in the bay area (I'm talking to YOU,
50poundnote), you should check them out. Tell em' Mike sent you.
I would love to see them go big. Here's one of my favorite songs by them.
