This is kinda fun. On another site that we will not mention (rhymes with macebook), I stumbled across a picture by [livejournal.com profile] bobaloo that he referred to as Pen and Pixel. It was a total blast from the past.

Here's an example of P & P.

The formula is diamond-studded wording, lots of really bad photoshop, a solid color border, and most importantly the background should have fancy cars or mansions or stacks of money.

I make a mix tape every year called Good Times, and I try to do something unique each year for the cover. Back in 2000, I did my own Pen and Pixel.

Fun with Photoshop - 2000 style

Ha ha. I'm still proud of it. :)

Here's this year's.

SometingAwful had a great Photoshop Phriday years ago that was non-rap artists made over with this type of tacky, materialistic design. My favorite was a Nine Inch Nails cover.

Found it!

www.somethingawful.com - 12/28/2007. Specifically making fun of the No Limit record label.

There is a NIN cover in there, but it wasn't the one I'm thinking about. It might have been in some design forum where the project was to take a classic album and redesign it the style of '90s rap.

Yay! There's some really great stuff there. I liked the Smiths one and the Neutral Milk Hotel one.
Awesome.

Bad photoshop is an art. Years ago I did up the ultimate Bad Bear Run Poster. I'll have to see if I can dig it up...

Oh, those CDs are just self-indulgent time capsules I make for myself.
I do make mix CDs for my friends, and I spend a lot of time on them to make them extra cool. I'm thinking of doing one soon. I'll let you know when I do.

Here's the one I did originally in 2005:

....and here's the updated version I am doing for a reissue:

Ha ha! I love it.

Now you need one with both super-shiny asses AND a chihuahua. :)
