I would screw a metal brace (maybe 1/2" by 10") on the remaining wood on each face of the beam you cut out. It looks, from your video, like it is a weight bearing beam....and, if so, it might simply crack

I almost bought a ladder, but my friend just did, and she said I can borrow it whenever I need it. I'll probably buy one eventually, but this works.
