Day 24. A song that you want to play at your funeral

One of my favorite bands, The Eels, have a song called Hey Man (Now You're Really Living).
I think that's the message I would want to get out as my parting shot. Presumably, the people at my funeral would be alive, and I would want to remind them of that. Life is fleeting. Embrace everything it has to offer, both the good and the bad. It's all part of the human experience.

Do you know what it's like to fall on the floor
And cry your guts out till you got no more
Hey man now you're really living

Do you know what it's like to care too much
'bout someone that you're never gonna get to touch
Hey man now you're really living

Day 25. A song that makes you laugh

Ever heard of Tenacious D? I just think they are great. Their movie was so much fun, and the show they once had was rediculously good.

I had the pleasure of seeing them live with Frank Black this past March. They played Oh My Golly with Frank Black, and then in the middle of the song, Jack Black did the sound byte from Surfer Rosa where Frank Black told Kim Deal "You fucking die!"

But the song I pick for this entry is from Jack Black's appearance on Saturday Night Live a few years ago. He did "The New Birthday Song". Oh shnap. I can't get enough of this song. It's so random and so funny, and it just gets weirder and weirder as it goes. Definitely my type of humor.

Day 26. A song that you can play on an instrument

I've played a lot of instruments in my life, but I never got very good at any of them. I suppose I was competent at trumpet in high school and college, but that's no fun.

I did play a lot of music with my friends at one point, though. We took ourselves very seriously, playing instrumental progressive-ish rock. But after Brian, our drummer, went away to Spain for a year, we switched to playing cover songs at parties. We sounded HORRIBLE, but we had so much fun doing it.

Our big gig was our friend Matt's wedding reception. We played eight songs, ending our set with Fight For Your Right to Party by the Beastie Boys.
The song I was the most proud of Drown, by the Smashing Pumkins. That opening guitar riff is so rad, and somehow Michelle was able to figure it out. The song is supposed to end with a super-long guitar solo that eventually drowns in distortion. She kind of nailed that too.

So, I don't know if this counts, but here's the song we played.
