Rhapsody? Rhapsody!

So, Rhapsody, right?

My dear friend [livejournal.com profile] sluggobear and I were talking about music last night. Specifically, we were talking about the latest stuff. I brought up the new Kanye West album, which I'm obsessed with, and also the new My Chemical Romance album (also great).

He told me he had a whole list of albums he needed to check out. He doesn't have any of them, he listens to them through Rhapsody.

"Rhapsody? You keep bringing that up. Why don't you just use iTunes?"

Here's the deal. $10 a month, all the music you want, on you computer or iPhone. Apparently, they have a huge catalog.

I thought about it for a minute. On Monday, I decided I wanted to hear the new album by Best Coast. $10 on iTunes. I listened to it twice. It's ok. That $10 would have paid for this month's Rhapsody. Last week, in the middle of the night, I spontaniously wanted to listen to a Tortoise album. I own it, but I couldn't find it. $10 on iTunes. That would have paid for last month's Rhapsody.

I'm going to give it a shot!

UPDATE: My friend [livejournal.com profile] animbear is totes adorbz.

ZOMG! So cute.

For me, it's short-term vs. long-term. Do I lease it, or own it? What happens when Rhaposdy stops doing business? Sure, I got to listen to all that music, but now I have to go out and spend more money to buy a copy so I can listen again. If I'd purchased it the first time, it would be there on the wall in all its lossless glory.

For someone who is such a voracious music consumer, it doesn't make sense.

Oh, don't get me wrong. This is purely supplemental. I will very much continue to voraciously buy physical CDs, iTunes LPs and records!

That's what we use at my house, it's very compatible with the MP3 players we own.

Ha ha. Good one!

Rhapsody is great for impulse listening and finding new music, not for building a library. It's worth the $10 a month just have a personal listening station that goes everywhere with you.

That's a great shot of Mikey, but I can't help but think something is missing...

I was totally teasing you! I'm mildly embarrassed, I wasn't trying to be an attention whore.

Yay Rhapsody!

People think you have to choose between iTunes and Rhapsody... actually I think they compliment each other!

I'd pay $9.99 for some albums, but there's a whole bunch that I enjoy being able to just spin whenever I want for free...

It's great for discovering new music too, without the commitment!

That's exactly how I feel about it. There are a lot of albums that I love to listen to, but I don't want to actually own. Maybe there's only one song on it I want to hear or I don't listen to it often enough to warrant a purchase. Sometimes a new album comes out and I want to give it a quick listen before I decide to buy it. That's what I use Rhapsody for. I've had a subscription for - jeez, I don't remember - 10 years? I still use it all the time.

Totally worth the money paid.

Yay.
My main use for it so far is for listening to albums I already own that aren't on my iPhone. And Rihanna. :)

10 years? Yeah, I can see myself sticking with this for a long time, too.

Hahaha... I love a man who will admit to the music he listens to. That's sexy ;)

It has been one of the best subscriptions I've ever had. I plan on using them for as long as they exist.
