Downtown Treasure Hunt

Dearest Dave White,

Bad news, sir. Your beloved mural is no longer with us. The town of San Diego has expressed its concerns, and it has been removed. My sincerest condolences.

Yours truly,
Michael John d'Arnaud
San Diego, CA

P.S. San Diego has some farts to eat.

To everyone else:

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] djmrswhite was asking if a recent Barry Mcgee mural, commissioned by the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, still existed in downtown San Diego.

This one, to be exact:

So, my friend Liz and I went on a bit of a treasure hunt during lunch. We had a lot of trouble finding the spot, but with our tenacity, and two smart phones, we found it:

Missing mural 2

Alas, the mural has been painted over, but I was able to identify the spot by the pipe curving from the top to a 90 degree angle and a small dent in the wall that is blocked by the red car.

It was a good time, treasure hunting around downtown San Diego. I bought us both Thai Iced Teas as a reward.

It is indeed lame that it was removed, especially because that area doesn't look any better post-removal.

Tell you what, though. Looking for that spot was one if the funnest lunch breaks ever. So, there's that.

It's always an honor to hear from you, Dave.
