Dream Date with d'Arnaud

Mark and I have been together for a long time, and one thing that has kept us sane is that we don't have the exact same schedules. Mark usually works at night twice a week. Sometimes, I spend that Mike-time running errands or going out to dinner with friends, but last night, I took myself out.

Knowing that nobody I know wanted to see it, and that I definitely did want to see it in 3D, I went to Saw 3D.

I didn't have a Saw shirt to wear, so I wore the most appropriate shirt I could find. My Motorhead shirt.

On my way to Saw 3D

As everyone had predicted or warned, it was pretty bad. I thought Saw 2 through 4 were pretty interesting, but they've just gotten progressively worst from 5 on. And then there's the whole 3D thing. I'm really starting to question it. It's kind of fun I guess, and it was amazing for Avatar, but for the most part it's just kind of overkill. Especially in Saw 3D. There were parts that didn't look very 3D at all, and then clearly as an afterthought, a CGI body part would fly toward the screen. Lame.

It had its moments, though. I wasn't ready to storm out of the theater or anything like that. It certainly wasn't boring.

After the movie, I went home and had a delicious Taco Bell meal, watched 3 Episodes of Stargate Universe and played Words with Friends on the iPhone (Hi, [livejournal.com profile] coachbear!). I really enjoy going out with people and spending time with Mark, but there's something to be said for being by yourself and doing exactly what you want every once in a while.

I agree with you. I'm finding all the 3D stuff to be gimmicky and unnecessary. I can't remember any time when it actually added anything of meaning to a movie. For the most part, I find it very distracting. The colors are muted and the image is often blurry.

I really think it takes away more than it adds to the movie experience.

Of course, now they're also pushing 3D TVs. I'm totally going to be one of those neo-luddites that refuses to get a 3D TV until 10 years after they stop making regular old boring 2D televisions.

Silly (bitter) little bear: I turned my cable off years ago. For reals. I haven't had Cable TV for 5 years now. I just don't watch it.

Sure, I'll go over to Justin's to watch Trueblood (and of course my guilty pleasure, RuPaul's Drag Race…) but that's it.
